EARLY COLLEGE ACADEMY (ECA)
What is ECA?
The Early College Academy (ECA) is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for your student to complete college-level courses while in high school. In collaboration with Victor Valley College (VVC), Oak Hills High School (OHHS) has designed this program to help OHHS students get a head start on their college education by taking college classes during the regular school day.
The program is free with absolutely no cost to students. Students can potentially earn up to 40 college credits during the three years. Most college credit earned through the program can be applied toward earning an AA/AS degree at VVC or be transferred to a university.
Students interested in the Early College Academy must apply during the spring semester of their 9th grade year to be a part of the program. For Fall 2024, we will only accept applications from the 9th grade class to begin 10th grade year. The Early College Academy is a 3 year program. Students who apply are expected to remain in the program for the three years.
Who Should Apply?
Students who are/have:
Hardworking
Motivated to learn
Good attendance/ discipline
Planning to attend college
Grades in good standing
FREE - these classes are offered at no cost to our students. This is a great way to plan ahead to save money in the future. Tuition and books are paid for!
COLLEGE CREDITS - Did you know that students who participate all three years in ECA can potentially earn 50 college credits? That is almost the equivalent to two full years of college (60 credits) meaning that by the time you graduate high school you could potentially be ready to enter your Junior year of college!
TIME - Students will get ahead in their college studies as many of these courses are transferable to CSU/UC schools. Students who complete 3 years of ECA and plan to attend VVC after graduating would potentially have their AS degree completed within a year of graduating high school. Students who plan to attend a 4 year university could potentially save two years worth of tuition costs!
GRADUATION: Helps students meet A-G Requirements. Not only do you earn college credit, but you earn high school credits as well. Some courses count for your general education courses for high school, meaning you complete your graduation requirements for high school while also completing college general education requirements.
