Recognizing the need for skilled healthcare professionals in our region, Hertford County Health Science Academy was established in partnership with ECU Health and Hertford County Public Schools. The Health Science Academy is dedicated to equipping students with the academic foundation, professionalism, and employability skills necessary to explore and succeed in various healthcare pathways.

The Hertford County Health Sciences Academy provides a rigorous educational program in collaboration with local strategic partners to prepare students for future success in healthcare professions.

This week, we are proud to spotlight Kristin Ellis, a sophomore at Hertford County Early College High School with a passion for the medical and health science field. Kristin hopes to become a neonatologist and work with premature newborns, helping them grow stronger and healthier. After high school, she plans to continue her education at Duke University, East Carolina University, or University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 👶🏽🩺
Outside of school, Kristin enjoys music, playing her clarinet, and caring for her parakeets. These hobbies have helped her develop patience, creativity, and responsibility — qualities that will support her future career in healthcare.
