Electronic Device Expectations
HHS students are expected to have their iPads for every class, every day. Teachers have been working on integrating 21st century learning experiences into their lessons based on various technologic resources accessible through iPads. Consistency of access and format is critical in order for teachers to design and deliver rigorous and relevant learning experiences. Additionally, we believe that having this school issued device is an essential learning tool and necessary for daily functioning and student success both at school and at home. In many ways, the iPad is now what the calculator, pencil, textbook/encyclopedia were to us.
Students that do not have a completed iPad agreement by September 11 will lose permission to bring the device home. Students will store their devices in a pre-approved area in the building (site yet to be determined). Students will be required to pick up the devices upon arrival and drop off the devices prior to departure. We are hopeful that most families and students will realize the need for the devices.
Personal electronic devices can act as supplements to the iPad at the discretion of the classroom teachers, so your children could bring devices if they would like, but much of what the students would do during the day in class will utilize the district issued iPad. There will be a great deal of educational interaction with the iPad through instructional design which will rely upon various applications available only through the district issued device.
There is a protocol in place for students to report lost/stolen/damaged devices which students will learn about on the first day of school. There is no set fee or cost since every situation will be dealt with on an individual basis. This program has been very successful at the middle level, with very few incidents of lost/stolen/damaged devices, and we anticipate the same success at the high school level.
