Technology

Students will use a variety of technology during the first year of the Architecture pathway. Throughout Introduction to Drafting students will use the following educational websites: Google Classroom, Nearpod, Floorplanner, Google SketchUp, Quizziz, Kahoot, and Quizlet. Students will also use the following AutoDesk software programs, which they also have the ability to download and use at home (see directions and links below): AutoCAD and Inventor.

AutoCAD

You can download a free student version of AutoCAD (for Windows or Mac). You will first need to create an AutoDesk account, if you do not already have one (use your school email and password - you will have to verify your email - click here to access your school email or go to outlook365 in Google). You may also have to show proof of school residency, if this occurs you will need to go to Infinite Campus and take a screenshot of either your transcript or the page in Infinite Campus that shows your name, grade, student number, etc. and upload that picture to the page that requests additional documentation. You must have an approved account and you must be verified as a student before you can download AutoCAD.

Once you are ready to download, select the following options :

  • Version: AutoCAD or AutoCAD for MAC

  • Operating System: Windows (MAC doesn't require you to select an operating system)

  • Version (Year): 2022

  • Language: English

  • Select Download from the drop down menu where it says Install

Once the download begins, it will take several hours to complete. View the steps below to know what to do during/after downloading AutoCAD. If AutoCAD installs correctly and you have no issues while running the software, then you will have the ability to work in AutoCAD at home.

If you have any issues while downloading AutoCAD, please check the AutoCAD troubleshooting link (above) to see student solutions to common errors.

  1. The AutoDesk Download Manager will appear and the download will begin

  2. Wait until it’s done downloading

  3. Press Install on this computer

  4. Wait

  5. Press I Accept, then next

  6. Select AutoDesk AutoCAD 2022, then next

  7. Hit install again unless you want it to install somewhere else

  8. Wait again

  9. While you are waiting, you should have got an email from Autodesk that shows your license information which you will have to enter later after installation, pull it up.

  10. Hit Finish

  11. If you had a pop up for Autodesk Manager minimize it

  12. Open up AutoCAD

  13. All new AutoDesk education products utilize a subscription (email login) model for software access. If you receive the prompt to enter a serial umber for your license, select the single user option versus the product/serial number option when the dialog box appears. It should allow you to login to your respective account with AutoDesk (it will force you to sign in to your account and will send you a verification code to the phone number you listed when you created your account). If that doesn't work, you may need to enter a trial to access the software initially. Once in the software, you can update the license to your AutoDesk account log in. Click here to see how to change your license type.

    1. Confirm you are connected to the Internet.

    2. Confirm your computer meets the minimum system requirements for the software you are using. If it does not, please download a compatible version from the education community.

    3. Once in the software, please access the account drop down menu in the top, right-hand corner.

    4. In the License Manager window, click Change License Type for an active license.

    5. Click Sign-In or Switch User option and Sign In again using the AutoDesk account you entered.

    6. If the issue continues, please review this article and potential causes for this issue.

*If you follow the above steps and there's not change options available, don't worry, you can access software functions and see your Account ID (upper, right-hand corner) and then you should be good to go.
