Read&Write is a Chrome extenstion that is a literacy support tool that offers help with everyday tasks like reading text out loud, understanding unfamiliar words, changing background effects, multi-coloroed highlighters, and more. While all HCS students have access to Read&Write, ESE students have additional rights within the program.
To access the Read&Write extension, simply click on the purple puzzle piece in the extensions tab in Chrome.
Install the GoGuardian Parent app on your phone to keep up with what your students are doing on their Chromebooks. The app will let you know the Top 5 Websites the student visited, the Top 5 Documents your student has interacted with, and the Top 5 Apps & Extensions they have used. You can also view Teacher Interactions. This allows you to see how many times the teacher Locked the Screen, Opened a Tab, Closed a Tab, or Unlocked the Screen. This is a very valuable app to help you promote internet safety!
HELLO OLA FAMILIES!
We are so excited about this brand new school year and look forward to getting to know you all!
Please CLICK HERE to visit our School Counseling website!
Here you can find information about how we support students by facilitating classroom lessons, small groups, and individual planning through our Comprehensive School Counseling Program (CSCP). See our contact information HERE!
Students will be exposed to activities and information related to college and other post-secondary options! The goal of this campaign is to empower all students with exceptional college opportunities and access that leads to success in a global society. We want to encourage students to begin thinking about and planning for how they want to design their lives after High School Graduation! Spark conversations at home with your student focused on their ideas about their future college, career, and overall life-readiness goals and dreams!
Our next field trip will be a campus tour at Clayton State University (Morrow, GA) on Thursday, November 21st! There are up to 30 seats available for this field trip, so it will be first come, first served. The first 30 students (who meet the requirements below) to return a signed permission slip and $20 cash payment to the counseling office will be able to attend the trip!
The $20 payment covers the cost of the trip and lunch at Clayton State’s cafeteria.

2. Student must not have any behavior/attendance concerns.

Counseling Class Lessons
Throughout the school year counselors are facilitating classroom lessons using the Naviance/Henry Futures platform. This platform allows students to explore and begin creating post-secondary plans. Counselors guide students through different tasks and activities in each grade level where students learn information about colleges, careers, and overall life readiness skills. Students can access Naviance/Henry Futures from their school chromebook at any time for further exploration! Ask your student to share with you which careers they have saved on their Favorites List!
Volunteers Needed:
8th Grade Career Day 2025
If you would like to volunteer to be a speaker at our annual Career Day on the morning of Friday, March 14, 2025, please use the link below to complete a short survey! We will share additional details and follow up with you using the contact information you provide on the survey.
By sharing information about your job/career, you will assist in exposing our students to a variety of career pathways and options! Students will be inspired to continue to consider their post-secondary plans for college, career, and overall life readiness! Through this experience, students will also be able to see first-hand how school connects to the world of work while exploring the many possibilities for success in their futures!
Thank you so much for your help in making Ola Middle School a great place to learn!

S.O.S./A.C.T. Class Lessons
Our Student Services department will continue visiting with classes this month to review the Signs of Suicide (S.O.S.) and Acknowledge, Care, Tell (A.C.T.) lessons with students. Students will be reminded and empowered to seek help by talking to a trusted adult if they notice warning signs in others or themselves.
Visit the following link to learn more about the program and available resources. https://www.mindwise.org/parents/
Students should log any reading they do in the Beanstack app. Parents can learn how to use Beanstack here. We have prizes every month for our top readers and we will have a reader celebration in December for those students who reach 1800 minutes from August 1-December 15.
All of our 8th graders just finished creating a book poster project in ELA class for their independent reading book. The 6th graders are in the middle of creating a book trailer project from their own independent reading book. Make sure to ask your child about these projects and what they are reading. Thank you for your support as we work as a team to promote literacy with our students.
