If your child wanted to join orchestra in 6th grade but missed the opportunity, we have great news! With enough interest, rising 7th graders now have a second chance to be part of our year-long orchestra class. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to learn a string instrument, develop musical skills, and be part of a great ensemble. If your student is interested, please fill out this form to indicate their interest. Feel free to reach out with any questions—I’d love to help your child get started in orchestra! Counseling Department Advisory Council
The Counseling Department's Advisory Council is a representative group of OMS stakeholders who meet twice per school year to review and advise our school counseling program. This year our team consists of Parents, Teachers, Students, our School Social Worker, Principal, along with our School Counselors.
Take a look at our department goals, student programming, interventions, and data in the presentation below from our Spring meeting that took place on April 2nd!
Counseling Class Lesson:
Advisement
The Counseling Department will visit 6th grade classrooms to show students how to enter their preferences for connections classes for next school year! Please CLICK HERE to view the current list of Connections Course Descriptions. (the courses are listed by grade level and alphabetically)
**Although, we cannot guarantee placement into certain connections classes, Infinite Campus will take student preferences into consideration when it generates the 2025-2026 schedules.
Counseling Class Lessons:
Naviance
Throughout the school year counselors are facilitating classroom lessons using the Naviance/Henry Futures platform. This platform allows students to explore and begin creating post-secondary plans. Counselors guide students through different tasks and activities in each grade level where students learn information about colleges, careers, and overall life readiness skills. Students can access Naviance/Henry Futures from their school chromebook at any time for further exploration! Ask your student to share with you which careers they have saved on their Favorites List!
What is Dual Enrollment?
The purpose of the Dual Enrollment program is to promote and increase access to postsecondary educational opportunities for Georgia high school students. Students take college coursework while still enrolled in high school and those credits go on both a college transcript and a high school transcript.
Georgia has TWO Dual Enrollment programs available!
Traditional Dual Enrollment – this program is designed for the student who is planning to attend a four year college after high school and will graduate by meeting all the typical high school graduation requirements in Georgia.
Accelerated Career Diploma – this program is designed for the student who is planning to attend a technical college or go straight into the workforce after graduating. These students take fewer high school courses but also earn credentials at a technical college to meet graduation requirements!

Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered at our book fair last month!
Reading is important here at OMS and we thank you parents for supporting reading with your student! We had 46 students meet the first semester goal of 30 hours (1800 minutes over 5 months/30 minutes a day of reading). We hope to have more for second semester. This challenge runs from January 1-May 1.
Students should log any reading they do in the Beanstack app. Parents can learn how to use Beanstack here. We have prizes every month for our top readers as well as other surprises.
8th grade students just finished a book trailer for ELA class. Students should make sure to return these books after their project is finished.
Hello! I can share resources with both parents and students about grades, time management, organizational tips and staying on track for school. Encourage your student to check Infinite Campus weekly with you and reach out to the teachers with specific class concerns or missing work.
Please feel free to reach out by phone or email if you have any concerns.
