If you do not hold a teaching certificate that has been issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, you will be placed on the Provisional Teacher salary schedule.
If you have a valid provisional teaching certificate that has been issued by the GA PSC, you will be placed on the Provisional Teacher salary schedule.
1. I passed the GACE, am I eligible for a professional certificate?
No. You are now eligible for a Provisional certificate. Professional certificates are issued after completing a state-approved certification program.
2. I do not have a teaching certificate. Why am I on the Provisional salary schedule?
If you do not hold certification, you will be placed on the provisional salary schedule and you will be paid as if you hold a provisional certificate.
3. If HCS has waived certification, why am I required to hold a clearance certificate?
A clearance certificate is not a teaching certificate. It is required by the state for all educators.
4. What is a clearance certificate?
This certificate verifies that you have passed a background check and taken the GACE Ethics assessment.
5. What are the state-approved certification programs?
Please refer to the Upgrade Advisor Tool via GaPSC. This is a user-friendly tool that allows you to see exactly what programs are offered and accepted in Georgia.
6. What does the certificate type listed means?
CHW: Charter Waiver - no teaching certificate of any kind is held.
BT: Provisional Certificate is held.
7. What should I do if my degree level is incorrect?
If you do not hold a certificate at the PSC, HCS Human Resources verifies the highest degree held for salary purposes. Please have offical transcripts for your highest degree sent to Erin Lopez. She will review them and adjust your degree level accordingly.
8. I passed the GACE already. How do I apply for my provisional certificate?
First, have official transcripts for all colleges sent directly to mail@gapsc.com, then log into your MyPSC account and answer the personal affirmation questions. Once you have completed these steps, email Erin Lopez and ask her to request your certificate. Note: Only school systems can request provisional certificates.
