12th Grade Focus
✔️Academics:
Finish Strong!
Remember that all of your grades from 9th grade to 12th grade will appear on your transcript and your transcript is one of the most important documents in your application.
If you have not already started taking AP or Dual Enrollment classes, consider taking AP or Dual Enrollment for an opportunity to earn college credit.
✔️Tests:
12th graders who are college bound should take the ACT or SAT, which are college entrance exams.
It is recommended to test for the 1st time before your 12th grade year.
If you are testing for the 1st time be sure to register and test in the Fall for the first available tests, preferably dates that are well before college admissions deadlines.
Some schools do not require test scores, but it is good practice to take the exams for a greater chance of receiving an acceptance, especially for competitive schools. Scores can also serve as a complimentary item to your GPA to assist you in meeting admissions requirements. Scores are also beneficial for scholarship opportunities.
12th graders who are interested in the Military/Armed Forces should take the ASVAB.
Hampton High School offers this test twice per year, once in the Fall and once in the Spring.
Students must register through the counseling office's sign up. Generally, there are QR codes posted and are visible outside of the counseling office door a month before testing is scheduled.
Students also have the option to take the ASVAB at a local recruiters station of the branch that they are interested in.
*Keep in mind that the recruiters do not take your highest score. They accept your most recent/last score.
Example: If you retest for a higher score and score lower than your initial test, they will use the lower score.
Be sure to prepare for the test so that you can do well. (See the Military/Career tab for more information)
✔️Activities
Focus on making a difference in your organization, club or sport and leave your mark/legacy.
This can propel you and lead you to new opportunities in the future.
