My Henrico 21 and Commitment to Innovative Teaching
In my commitment to inspiring my students through innovative teaching, I have been extremely blessed to be teaching in a 1:1 school district. This has been displayed in my submission of lessons to Henrico 21 as well as a three year participation in the Reflective Friends process.
As a 21st Century professional, I take much pride and enjoyment in the times I collaborate with my peers to create quality learning experiences in our classrooms. As a Reflective Friend's coach, I had the opportunity to better understand the elements of the TIPC and give feedback to strengthen teacher lessons. Taking tough topics from our Virginia Standards of Learning and infusing technology, real world experiences and solid 21st Century pedagogy is a highlight for me. This lead me to my current career path as an ITRT. Supporting teachers to be inspired to change their instructional practices and see students achieve is what drives me in my role.

Building a Performance Assessment for 21st Century Skills 2010
Participated in the Performance Task Academy with a group of HCPS teachers, Director of Technology Tom Woodward and ALP Consultant John Ross to develop and pilot a 21st century performance task. See what we built! Visit the link below.
HCPS STEM Academy for Gifted Students / Partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University 2016 - 2017 School Year
I received an invitation to participate in developing lessons and working with a group of HCPS Gifted students in the area of space exploration. I had the chance to create STEM curriculum based on the students' interest and introduce them to some emerging tech along the way. The program included students from Rolfe, Fairfield, Brookland, Elko and Wilder Middle Schools and was supported by students from the VCU Honors College
Read a great article about the great learning we did together on the VCU Honors College Site by clicking on the link below. I have also included my lessons and welcome your feedback.
The first week, we did a series of stations where students used different tools to solve problems that an astronaut might face. The picture to your right was from the "Get to the Extraction Point!" station. Students used the Sphero robot as their "rover" to make it to the extraction point by coding its path.
In this lesson, we had the students understand why spatial awareness is an important part to working in space. We used phones and iPads to access Discovery VR and view a simulated space walk then made connections and questions from there. Students used their curiosity as fuel to find activities that would help train astronauts to improve their spatial awareness.
