Above & Beyond

Welcome to Above & Beyond!

The aim of this section is to take our students above and beyond the classroom learning that they do. Whatever year group they are in, some students may have already developed a passion and interest in a particular subject; they love the lessons and all they are studying but they wish that they could investigate and explore beyond what they get taught in the classroom. This section will help them do that.

All of our super curricula suggest a wide range of resources: books to read; websites to look at; podcasts to listen to; TV programmes or films to watch. Anything that might get our students thinking above and beyond what they study in the classroom.

Super curricula have been established at Key Stage 5 (Years 12& 13) level for a number of years. These are shared with students by subject teachers at the start of the course via Google Classroom. They are a brilliant way for students to read beyond the textbook and class notes and gain valuable insight and ideas to deepen their knowledge. We especially recommend our aspiring Oxbridge students to access their subject super curricular on a regular basis.

Key Stage 4 (Years 10 & 11) students may have already thought about studying a subject in 6th form or at university or about a career path related to a particular subject. Accessing the GCSE Super Curricular document will guide our students to a range of subject specific resources that will help as they study their GCSEs but also take them beyond the content of the course. We hope to develop this in the future with career related ideas, for example what to read or listen to if a student aspires to become a doctor, a solicitor or engineer.

For our Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) students there is the KS3 Super Curricular document which suggests a range of resources, some of which are subject specific, to help develop their interest in learning. For example, if a student enjoys creative writing and wants to get some expert advice, the document directs them to a brilliant website where they can do just that.
