Week 7 is the start of a new six weeks and a fresh start to get going on the right foot with practice and assignments! This week we got to showcase the Concert and Symphonic Bands alongside every other band in HEBISD. Over 1000 band students performed together at this year's Band Bash! Both beginners and Concert Band are now using Make Music (formally Smart Music) to complete playing assignments. This means they can complete assignments at home just like math or english homework! You should receive an invite to join the Make Music class and get weekly updates on how your student is doing with practicing and assignments on this platform.
Band fees are past due! Payments can be made on School Cash online or by Cash or Check. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns about fees.

This week we explored more in our essential elements book and on Make Music! Beginners can now use the program Make Music at home to practice and complete assignments. You will receive an invitation soon to be a parent member in our classes and get weekly progress reports on how your student is using and progressing on Make Music. Make Music is not used in beginner percussion class, they will continue doing assignments in class and eventually through Canvas.
After a great first six weeks we are excited to celebrate the students listed here in the 100+ club! They were able to maintain an average or 100 or higher by practicing outside of class and preparing to a high level for their first 6 weeks quizzes! If your student is on this list they have definitely earned a special treat or reward!
Questions to ask your beginner:
How many lines in the book can you play so far?
Can you play your 5 note mini scale?
Have you submitted any lines on Make Music?

We have made some GREAT improvements this week in Heroes Triumphant! It's exciting to hear a piece come together! This week Concert Band reflected on our first six weeks and put together the information on the PDSA poster here! While most of us are great a taking our instruments home 1-3 times a week, more of us need to be practicing 3 or more days a week. 50% of students we able to earn an 90-100+, this is such a great start to the year! Another 30% were able to earn a B in band! It is our goal in the second six weeks to help move these students up to an A by following our 2nd Six Weeks Action Plan! Students should be practing a little more at home this six weeks, and using Smart Music and Canvas to complete homework assignments early or on time! In class we will work to make all of our music pass off and performance ready! Tutorials are available everyday after school and each Wednesday morning. Ask your student about their plan for success this six weeks and let me know how I can help!
Questions to ask your band student:
What days are you planning to take your instrument home other than Friday?
What days can you set aside to submit assignments?
