Mrs. Johnson is excited to begin her 13th year as Director of Bands at Bedford Junior High, after previously serving two years as assistant band director. A native of Denton, Texas, she began her teaching career as an assistant director at Crownover Middle School and later served as head director at Strickland Middle School, both in Denton ISD.
With nineteen years of experience in music education, Mrs. Johnson’s bands have earned consistent UIL Sweepstakes awards, Best in Class honors, and were most recently selected to perform at the Music for All National Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana in March 2026! She is an active clinician and adjudicator and has taught numerous All-State musicians, as well as many former students who are now successful music educators.
Mrs. Johnson graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Texas in 2008 with a degree in Music Education. While at UNT, she performed in Concert Band, Brass Band, and Basketball Band, and was a four-year member of the Green Brigade Marching Band. During her time in the Green Brigade, she served as Student Assistant to the Director, trumpet section leader, drill technician, and librarian, and was named Bandsman of the Year in 2006.
Mrs. Johnson is a member of TMEA, TBA, and TMAA. She is happily married to Dr. Kendrick Johnson, an assistant principal in Eagle Mountain–Saginaw ISD, and they have two children, Ryland James and Eleanor Jade. In her free time, she enjoys reading, doing the daily Wordle, and all things Disney.
