Jazz Band Membership Guidelines

• All 8th and 9th grade band students are invited to participate in jazz band.

• Students must stay in good standing in concert/symphonic band to participate in jazz band. This includes attending their normal sectional day and staying on top of assignments. 

• There are no instrument restrictions on joining jazz band. Even if you do not play a “standard” jazz instrument all are welcome to participate. 

• Students wishing to perform with jazz band must attend the majority (preferably ALL) of the rehearsals leading up to each performance. Students who miss too many rehearsals will not be invited to perform. 

• Students must commit to practicing jazz band music outside of jazz rehearsals as we have limited time to put our pieces together. Jazz rehearsals are not the time to learn your music.

• At the end of the 1st semester students can participate in an audition to be in a Select Jazz group. This group will play more advanced music, learn to improv, attend the TCC festival, and adhere to a more standard jazz instrumentation.
