A short but fun week! We hope you all have a fun and safe Halloween and long weekend! Our fundraiser ends today and currently stands at over $31,000! We are so grateful for the contributions made and we are excited to put this money to work for your students!
Today is the end of the six weeks and Monday will kick off the 3rd grading period. At the start of each six weeks, students receive their pass-off or objective sheet that includes all of their upcoming grades for the six weeks. It is our hope that this allows students to work ahead on their assignments! Students can always earn extra credit by submitting assignments early as well. There is typically one daily and one test grade per week that students should be completing from home through Canvas or Make Music. Encourage them to stay on top of their assignments and not let them pile up as late work.

Beginner Band went above and beyond for the band fundraiser raising over $16,000! Thank you to the band families and community who participated and made this possible!
Our first Band Olympics has concluded with 27 brass students earning a medal and 36 woodwind students earning a medal! All Gold Medalists have made their way onto the Wall of Honor in the band hall and all medalists will be recognized at our winter concert. We will start a new round next six and percussion students will get a chance to earn a medal this round now that they have begun working on their keyboard/mallet skills! If your student missed out on medaling this time, they have a fresh start next six weeks!
Questions to ask your beginner:
What medal did you earn? If you did not medal this time what can we do to medal next time?
Upcoming Dates
11/4/24 - Start of 3rd six weeks, students will get a new pass-off sheet with every grade and Band Olympian check box so they can work ahead!
This week Concert and Symphonic Bands performed at the 8th grade football game vs Hurst. We brought our Halloween and school spirit and cheered the 8th grade team onto a win! This is our last football game of the year. We will use pep tunes one more time in the spring for our final pep rally. Don't lose those flip folders!
We have reopened entry for our Dave & Busters social next weekend! We have 15 spots open for students to join us! Please complete the permission form and medical form and turn in $40 by Monday 11/4/24.
We have now begun preparations for our winter concert cycle of music! Students received Haunted Sleigh Ride this week and Winter Wonderland and Celebrate the Season last week and should be practicing them at home. They will begin passing off cuts of these in the new six weeks starting 11/4/24. While it may seem early for Christmas music, we want as much time to polish this music as possible! While in the early stages students should be practicing slow with a metronome at home and using their pencil to write rhythms and mark mistakes. Encourage them to be doing this at home!
Questions to ask your band student:
Which of the three winter concert pieces do you like the most or play the best so far?
Upcoming Dates:
11/8/24 - Dave and Busters Social

We are just 2 weeks away from the HEB Honor Band auditions. This has been our main goal in sectionals since we began in August! Students should be working to play their etudes more musically; adding appropriate style and dynamics. We had our first round of mock auditions in sectionals this week; this is an important part of our preparation!
Questions to ask your band student:
How did you do on your mock audition? What was the strongest and weakest part of your performance?
What 3 scales do you have to prepare for your mock audition this week? *Mock audtions will take place during our sectional time!
