Week 14 - Fundaiser Rewards!

Today we got to celebrate our top fundraisers, hoodies were distributed to students who raised $200+ dollars on our fundraiser! We will hold our Movie Night reward on Monday, December 9th for all students who raised $150+ dollars. This event will take place at Movie Tavern Bedford. Doors will open at 6:30pm and the movie will begin at 7pm, all students should be picked up promptly at 9pm. On Monday, November 18th students who earned $150+ will RSVP in class to let us know if they plan to attend, we must turn in our head count on Monday!

Beginner Band

Beginner band's first winter concert assignment was due last Friday on Make Music. If students have not completed their Penguin Promenade, it is currently a "1" in the gradebook. The "1" means that it can still be completed for partial credit. As a reminder, band assignments lose 10 points each week that they are past due, Penguin Promenade is a 90 this week and will drop down to an 80 on Monday. If your student is missing their assignment please encourage them to log onto Make Music this week and get it completed!

Have you completed your Penguin Promenade on Make Music?
This week we learned about ties and dotted quarter notes. How many pulses does a dotted quarter note get?

Concert Band

We had a weird week with testing getting rescheduled and uniform fittings happening but still made progress in our winter concert music! On Friday we played every measure of all 3 pieces. Next week will be focused on cleaning up any remaining note and rhythm errors. We will hear lots of small groups and individuals playing, be sure to have your part ready!

Symphonic Band

HEB Honor Band auditions are happening next week! This has been our main goal in sectionals since we began in August! Students received their audition sign-in time and room number this week - ask to see their blue sheet with detailed information!

Woodwinds and Brass will not have sectionals again until the new year. Percussion will resume sectionals on Wednesday mornings after Thanksgiving Break in order to begin preparing for Night of Drumming.

We have A LOT of Christmas music that we are preparing for our Elementary Tour and Winter Concert. You should hear your student playing familiar Christmas tunes at home!

Questions to ask your band student:

Ask your student to explain the audition process. What order do they play their music in?
What scales do you think will be selected to play at your audition? Hint: not hte easiest ones!

Jazz Band

During this time of year (and due to the limited number of rehearsals between now and our performances) we will host a couple saturday jazz rehearsals! These are obviously optional but the more people in attendance the more we can get done. Rehearsal dates are listed below.
