Headline ‘Impact Statement’
Through a student-led, evidence-informed Eco-Schools project, HeadStart International School is addressing a locally identified environmental need by regenerating mangrove ecosystems on Phuket, while developing informed, ethical and globally responsible young leaders aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Project Leads:
Eco School Coordinator
Student Eco Lead (supported by Secondary Eco Committee)
Partners:
Local Phuket-based mangrove regeneration charity / conservation NGO
Community stakeholders (students, local residents, environmental groups)
Identified Need (Context)
An Environmental Review conducted in June 2025 identified that historical land-use change on Phuket has contributed to mangrove loss, reducing coastal protection, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration. It was also identified that the construction and expansion of HeadStart International School has an impact on the local eco-system through changes made to Land Use. As a school community embedded within this environment, HeadStart International School recognises both its responsibility and opportunity to contribute positively to local ecological regeneration through student leadership and community action. Action taken to regenerate valuable eco systems may help address the impact the school has had on local eco systems through its operation.
INTENT (Aims)
By June 2027, this project aims to:
Empower students to lead an authentic environmental regeneration project with real-world impact.
Raise awareness within the school and wider Phuket community about the importance of mangrove ecosystems.
Raise funds to directly support mangrove growing and planting on Phuket.
Establish a sustained partnership with a local environmental charity.
Embed regeneration, not just sustainability, into the school’s Eco-School culture.
Develop student leadership skills, including project management, advocacy, communication, and ethical action.
IMPACT (Desired Outcomes)
By June 2027, HeadStart International School will have:
Directly contributed to mangrove regeneration on Phuket
Raised measurable funds supporting environmental repair
Developed confident student leaders capable of ethical, informed action
Strengthened community and charity partnerships
Shifted school culture from sustainability awareness to regenerative action
Embedded environmental responsibility into student identity and curriculum
