Changemaker Activities are our themes for each trimester. The theme reflects a specific environmental and SDG issue in Phuket that we aim to address during that period. These shape our lunchtime activities and include a range of engaging and informative hands on Awareness Campaigns.
For example, the theme for the first term is Responsible Consumption, launching the year with our Plastic Drive.
Sometimes, the focus might shift to promoting our club. In that case, we might ask members to design a T-shirt featuring a QR code linking to our beach clean-up team’s website. This helps spread awareness, attract new members, and encourage others to follow our eco blog for updates on environmental issues.
There are two main reasons:
First, it allows us to respond to the real and current challenges the island faces. For example, launching a paper recycling campaign during the Songkran festival would be less relevant than addressing water scarcity—especially since water is heavily used during that period. It’s important to remind people not to waste it.
Second, it diversifies the eco-program, making our movement more engaging and creative for everyone involved.
So, stay updated on our Changemaker Activities to get involved with new and meaningful events.
We have invested in plastic grinders, a washer, a plastic sheet press, an extrusion machine and a vacuum mold. These machines have enabled us to teach students the full scope of taking discarded plastics and turning them into useful products. Plastics collected by the school community through plastic drives, plastic collection bins and Community Beach Cleans provide plastic straws and bottle tops which can then be transferred through the Centre for community use.
Cleaner Air Initiative
An initiative led by our Key Stage 2 Eco Committee has been to improve the quality of air within our classrooms. Through parent targeted campaigns to the systematic management of air purifying plants in each classroom, our Eco Ambassadors are enculturing an approach which recognises the symbiotic relationship between nature and humans within our daily classroom lives here at HeadStart
HeadStart hosts an annual Friday Market with a focus upon the sale and crafting of products with minimal environmental impact and beneficial to a more sustainable way of life. Alongside this themed market, we also ensure that our monthly Friday Market offer promotes sustainable products created by our learner and parent community.
