Spelling Words of the Week!

I will post a list of spelling words that will help increase basic vocabulary (word families) and key vocabulary words and terms from our units of study in each subject (Math, Science, Social Studies, Health, Drama, Dance, Art, Physical Education). Students should practice spelling the words out loud, know the definition of the word (Definition.com) and be able to use the word in a complete sentence. Spelling is not meant to be the most important aspect of the program by any means, but meant to support their communication of Big Ideas and concepts.

I will be giving the class a test called the "Gentry Spelling Test" next week. This test will demonstrate the level at which your child is able to spell (Grade 1-8) using 20 grade appropriate key words for each grade level. This is not a test they can study for and is just meant to give the teacher an idea of where your child is beginning the year. I will test them again at the end of the year so that we can measure the wonderful growth over the course of the year!
