About GCSE ART...
Welcome to Gcse Art. Our aim is to broaden your creativity through the delivery of a wide range of media, materials, techniques and processes’ with purpose and intent, in turn allowing you to realise intentions of your own journey.
Our Curriculum allows you to develop creativity, imagination and independence. As artists, we want you to be proactive in your understanding of the course and also take every opportunity to strengthen your skills in different areas.
This page is full of visually informing resources that will allow you to develop and progress as artists to help support you in achieving your potential.
As a department we have a history of strong results achieving 27% of top grades (7-9) in 2019 ( this was our last set of exam data due to covid). We will work with you as individuals to personalise plans and achieve a strong portfolio of work.

Course information:
60% coursework - This includes a foundation project that we run in year 9 and 2 coursework projects both with a final outcome.
Our projects are contemporary and include a variety of techniques and processes.
40% Exam project- This includes a prep book which you will spend roughly 10 weeks on in class and a 10 hour exam.
You will choose the exam question and create a project around that question. Your exam piece is a final outcome of that project. The prep book completed in class holds the majority of the marks and this allows you to be confident in the exam itself.

Homework
Homework will be published on both Arbor and Google Classroom. Homework tasks may be computer based ( eg Artist research or annotation) or practical work.
Your teacher will provide you with all the relevant information, including sessions to allow you to complete practical work in the art department. All homework that is set will go towards your coursework. Please ensure you stay on top of this and communicate with your teacher.
Assessment Criteria
This course is marked using four assessment objectives (AO1, AO2, AO3 and AO4).
These assessment objectives are each marked out of 24 and the total amount of marks available to be achieved is 96.

Research an artist or movement linking to your work.
Create artist copies showing a visual understanding.
Analyse, evaluate or give an opinion on the work of artist(s) and annotate to demonstrate your understanding of their style and technical processes.
Create artist inspired pieces to show understanding of particular techniques and processes.
Create a range of studies using a variety of media.
Development pages working towards final outcome
Demonstrate consistent refinement ( improvement and control) with different materials.
Explore a range of techniques and processes linking to your project.
Reviewing what you have achieved through annotation.
Create a tonal study of either a primary or secondary source.
Create line drawings using either a primary or secondary source.
Take primary photos linked to your project.
Gather secondary photos linked to your project.
Annotate the process of your work linking to artists and explaining your ideas.
Create a final piece(s) or outcome in response to something. ( eg, artist, photo, theme)
Create a series works to be viewed as outcomes.
Evaluate outcomes using art keywords linking to particular topics.
