Mrs. Wilson

Assistant Principal

Dear UPES Families,

Towards the middle of May, teachers begin the intricate process of creating class lists for our 2024-2025 school year.  This is a process that they will work on throughout the months of May and June.  As teachers collaborate, they consider MANY factors; for example, student needs, peer relationships, how students work together in a classroom setting, personalities, students with IEP's, 504's, and more.  They then work together to create classrooms that are balanced. For example, we do not want one classroom that has many shy students or many outgoing, many students that experience anxiety, or many students who require additional support for academic success. We work hard to balance these needs to create positive learning environments for our students.

The reason I share this is, while we DO NOT take teacher requests, if you, as a parent or guardian, would like to share information about your child that will help us set them up for success, we will certainly consider it.  Please note that if you have completed this form in the past, we do not carry over information from year to year.  If you would like us to continue to consider information about your child’s needs, you will need to complete this form again.

Please complete this Google Form no later than Thursday, May 10, 2024.

--- Mrs. Dehlinger, Principal

If you have a child turning five years old on or before December of 2024 and they are not already attending the Pre-K program at Charlotte Avenue Elementary, registration is now open.  To begin, just click on the link below to begin the process.  A list of documentation is outlined through this link:  Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Screening will take place June 10 - 13.  Information on Kindergarten screening will be sent closer to the date to the parents of  all students registered either in our Pre-K program at Charlotte Avenue or through our online registration this year.

1st Day Student Supply

Kits for 2024 - 25

For parents who are interested in ordering their child(ren)'s school supplies from 1st Day School Supplies for the coming school year, you may do this using the QR Code below  or can go to this link:  1st Day School Order form .   If Union Pleasant received 100 or more orders,  First Day School will donate supplies to needy families in our building.  The link will be accessible until July 1, 2024.

This will allow you to purchase the supplies for the student's particular grade level.    In late August, once you receive your child's teacher assignment, check the Union Pleasant website for any additional supplies needed for child's individual teacher.

Reminder, in order to volunteer for school events such as field day and Cave of the Winds, you MUST complete volunteer training every year.  Volunteer training this year can be found in your Operoo account under the "Form Library" tab.  Training MUST be completed AT LEAST one month prior to the event for approval to attend the event or volunteer.

Sales runs until May 8.  Lots of new and returning styles and new logo.  Some options have multiple colors when you select the style.  We even have shorts for when the weather finally gets warm and umbrellas to deal with the rain until then!  See link below:

Our final PTSA meeting will be held on June 6 at 3:15 PM (to hopefully avoid school and spring sport conflicts).  There are several open committee positions available for next year that will be discussed during this meeting.  Without PTSA participation and leadership by some amazing parent volunteers, many of the events the PTSA runs and sponsors each year will not be possible.  If you have any interest in leading a committee, please attend this meeting or reach out to Lynn Mason at ltn46@hotmail.com

Notes from the Nurse

According to New York State Law, students entering 6th grade who are

10 years or older must receive their Tdap booster prior to admission to sixth grade. You will be receiving a letter from me after Spring recess explaining it further. Please call your pediatrician's office to schedule an appointment.

Accidents happen!

The health office is low on extra clothes and underwear.  Please consider packing an extra outfit in your child's backpack.

The health office does accept new and used clothing donations. We are most in need of boys underwear of all sizes and boys small pants.
