Carry out the roles and responsibilities of Form Teacher / Civics Tutor
Be familiar with procedures regarding attendance taking, follow-up actions for absentees, premature school leavers, communication with parents, etc.
Be professional at all times.
Be well-prepared for lessons.
Maintain active teaching, learning and monitoring in class.
Use a variety of methods to deliver lessons so that your students are challenged to learn.
When in doubt about classroom management, be forthcoming in asking for assistance.
Active teaching is to be carried out when in class.
Teachers should strive for educational excellence - excellence in the approaches and practices to teaching and learning.
Teachers should go to class punctually.
High School teachers who are unable to report for work or will be late for class should inform their respective Director of Consortium or Reporting Officers or DPST.
College teachers who are unable to report for work or will be late for class should inform their respective Subject Principal Consultants and Reporting Officer (if PC is not direct supervisor).
Teachers should spend time on teaching, monitoring and evaluating their teaching in class, rather than solely on administering written work.
Teachers should use differentiated instruction, innovative pedagogies, encourage active class participation, and facilitate group work. Such strategies encourage effective learning.
Preparation for all lessons is important. Appropriate assignments (written or in other forms) must be given and constructive feedback has to be provided. This consolidates and reviews what has been learnt in class.
Teachers should try to mark all written work given. If the intention is for the purpose of revision, teachers are also required to go through the exercises/work done by their students.
While written work is to be given by teachers, teachers should also not overload their students with too much work.
Teachers should keep all records of written work given. All grades and marks should be clearly recorded and entered online using ISP for students’ Progress Report.
All teachers are encouraged to actively share their teaching resources with their fellow colleagues either in the weekly professional sharing sessions or through the following ways /channels:
Department/ Unit Sharing Folders in ‘O’ Drive
Electronic Message Board (iEMB)
For High School Teachers too, there is also the HCI Learning Management System (LMS) – The iVLE. For College teachers, most of the departments has LMS - Moodle. They are required to update their teaching records in their respective resource on the school’s learning management system (online HCI). This should be done on a weekly basis.
This is also one channel in which teachers can put up their resources for sharing with their fellow colleagues. It is also here where teaching materials should be made available and accessible to students.
Note – all teachers are required to observe the copyright laws in the course of preparing their teaching resources.
If in doubt, please seek the assistance of DP/AM (Ms Cheryl Lim) or respective subject PCs.
