"The Lab is really hands-on, I like that it's pretty self-led with clear expectations of what we need to get done everyday, and I like that there are leadership opportunities, but they're pretty self-appointed"
-Edison Senior enrolled in MRSC A120- Marine Aquarium Science
Our main mission is providing every student within our program, whether or not they have an interest in Marine Sciences, get something out of our program. For those who have an interest in Marine Sciences, we do our best to acquire high-level connections with well-recognized programs and organizations to secure future education and career connections for our students. In addition, we do our best to prepare them with all of the necessary skills and information they need to succeed and thrive in the field, such as Animal Husbandry, Water Chemistry, and Life Support, with our support our students can go on to Orange Coast College in order to get their Level 1 Operator certification via AALSO, a very highly respected and sought-out-for certification within the field.
For those who are not looking for a career within the Marine Sciences, we ensure that they do not walk away from the program empty-handed. We incorporate leadership and responsibility skills into the daily tasks of maintaining the Innovation Lab to prepare students for any future career. In addition, we provide lots of teamwork opportunities to prepare students with working with others, and offer presentations for students to strengthen their public speaking skills. We implement basic science principles such as developing a hypothesis, creating claims based on evidence and reasoning, and performing observations, all of which provide a base-level understanding for future science principles for higher education.
Any student interested in sustainability, conservation of the natural world, general science, or self-improvement for honing in necessary skills for the future would massively benefit from being apart of our program, and we are confident that any student in the program will walk away with something gained from the experience, and will feel more confident in themselves for the future.
If you have any questions, feel free to connect with one of our staff, who will connect you with a volunteered student in the program to answer real-time questions about their experiences within the program.
