In addition, students receive college-level education in a high school setting without the cost of tuition.
This is a truly unique opportunity for students interested in pursuing an ecology-related career, but furthermore supports students exponentially who are interested in pursuing a Marine Science related career by giving them exclusive opportunities and experiences that puts them at a high advantage within their job-market.
Outside of dual-enrollment, we offer one class called the "Lab Specialist" class. Students have to have completed one or more MRSC dual-enrollment class before taking the Lab Specialist class, as they are considered to be a specialist in the Lab! This class counts towards an elective high school credit.
Lab Specialists, 2024-2025 School Year:
To be a Lab Specialist, you must have taken a Marine Aquarium Science class. Our primary objective for Lab Specialists is to ensure the wellbeing of the Innovation Lab during school hours, as well as special opportunities to work on exclusive projects, and field trips. The second semester (of the first year) of being a Lab Specialist will be based around a research project; the topic chosen by each student to be done individually. The topic can be anything relating to/ can be completed within the Innovation Lab. Students may choose to research the efficiency of certain pieces of equipment, to developing a student management program, there's a vast number of research/ experiment opportunities for Lab Specialists to complete, and then take forward with them in the future to future college, or job applications. In addition, Lab Specialists will be prioritized for internship opportunities at other high-end facilities, and may gain more career connections and opportunities than the Marine Aquarium Science students.
If you have any questions, feel free to connect with one of our staff, who will connect you with a volunteered student in the program to answer real-time questions about their experiences within the Lab Specialist program.
