Small group counseling

 Small Group Counseling

Small group counseling is a direct, school-based, service provided to students at all our school sites. Group counseling provides a supportive, caring, and guided environment that enables group members to share their concerns, experiences, and strengths with their peers and the school counselor. Through group activities, students learn new skills, build confidence, and increase positive school-based relationships. Group counseling has been shown to improve school achievement, school adjustment, peer relationships, and sense of belonging. It can also help support change and reduce negative emotions and social isolation.

Group counseling in our Hermosa Schools builds on the social-emotional curriculum of Second Step classroom lessons and focuses on core social and emotional competencies that support learning and development. Group counseling services are based on individual student needs, school needs, and community needs, which are assessed through student data and an internal referral process.
