School Counselor's Role
School Counselors are certified professionals with a minimum of a Master’s degree in Counseling who work to improve student outcomes through leadership, advocacy, and collaboration. They use data to design and deliver programs that promote equity and inclusion. School counselors work to maximize student success, promoting access and equity for all students. As vital members of the school leadership team, School Counselors create a school culture of success for all.
School Counselors support students across three domains:
Social-Emotional
Academic Achievement
College and Career
School Counselors provide direct and indirect to students through the school counseling curriculum, planning, responsive service, and system-wide support:
School-wide activities
Classroom lessons
Small group counseling
Drop-in or one-off counseling sessions
Short-term individual counseling
Crisis intervention
Collaboration with staff and families
Referral and collaboration with outside agencies
