Submission Guidelines

Any work - literary pieces, art , music, digital media - created by the submitting student is welcome. Please note that we do not publish anonymous submissions. All writing or art submitted must be original work.

*We are now accepting submissions for the spring issue!

The deadline for submissions is May 15, 2022.*

To Submit:

  • Share or email attachments to articuLITmag@gmail.com

  • Please use the subject line "Art Submission" or "Writing Submission" or "Art and Writing Submission", as appropriate. If you need help, ask your English teacher or stop by and see Ms. Weingart (B210) or Mrs. Wilimzig (B212). You can also email us directly with questions anytime at: rweingart@hazelwoodschools.org or kwebb@hazelwoodschools.org.

  • Please include your name and grade in your email.

  • If submitting multiple pieces, please send each piece in separately.

Guidelines for Written Work:

  • Typed in Google Docs or Microsoft Word.

  • Include a title for your piece. (Note: "Untitled" is often overused and should be used very sparingly, if ever.)

  • Maximum length: no more than five pages. It is fine to send an excerpt, if needed.

  • Editing and proofreading prior to submission is appreciated. We reserve the right to lightly edit submitted work for clarity and readability (and potentially for school appropriateness).

  • Be sure your sharing settings allow us to view your document.

Guidelines for Artwork:

  • For art created by hand: Take a clear, close photo of your art in a well-lit room (preferably in natural light). Be mindful of shadows.

  • For digital work: send the file/attachment

  • In your email submission, please include the following:

    1. your name and grade in your email

    2. a title for your piece

    3. a short description of the piece, perhaps your inspiration behind it

    4. what medium you used to create the piece

Guidelines for Lit Reviews:

  • Include the title, author, and date (year) of publication

  • Write an honest and detailed review. Good literary reviews give away enough information that anyone can understand the major themes, topics, subject, conflict, etc., but be sure not to give away all the details. Leave the reader something to look forward to!
