Welcome to K-8 Grade Enrichment Reading Ideas!! Feel free to check out all the websites or pick and choose what websites work best for your child. Remember, reading is so very important and should be done daily. Make sure you are reading something that you enjoy. It makes it even better!!

Click on any of the pictures or bold words that are underlined and they will take you directly to a website for reading! These sites may either read a story to you, or they will have activities that foster the learning and love of reading along with other educational skills. Use these for short periods of time during the day or for fun screen time. Feel free to email us at anytime with questions: aschlafke@hayward.k12.wi.us (PS) ; lsanders@hayward.k12.wi.us (PS); KWoelber@hayward.k12.wi.us (IS) ; klaier@hayward.k12.wi.us (MS)

Storyline Online - Choose a story each day to be read by some of your favorite actors! This is a great spot for students to be read to just like being at school, only some of the actors are even better than us! Parents can click on "All Books" at the top of the Storyline page and you can find activity guides to go along with any of the books that your child reads.

International Children's Digital Library - This is a wonderful free resource for families to use. Children can read books from this site on their own; however, it is a very large resource that might require some help to find a book. Once the book is chosen for the correct level of the student, the book is opened in a very easy format that children can use to read on their own. Happy Reading!

Oxford Owl - This site is a wonderful resource that I have used in my own classroom. You will have to create a login and join the site, but it is free and this is wonderful. It has audio books that are leveled for your child's age. You can also find lessons for reading, writing, and math leveled for your student. This is a helpful resource with easy lessons just a click away. Spend some time exploring!

National Geographic Young Explorers - This is an awesome non-fictional site for your child. Children can read magazine articles on several very cool topics at their own level. The magazine has audio and the articles can be read to your child, or they are written so children can read them themselves. I love this free resource. The pictures alone are amazing to check out! Explore and learn!!!

ABCya - This is a free website sorted by common core standards for both reading and math. Students can find a multitude of games/activities that are organized by grade level PK-6. You or your child can also sort the games by standards and choose to practice a particular skill. Have fun!

Starfall - This website is created for students in grades PK-3. However, for a student that is struggling with some reading skills, this is a wonderful resource to use to fill in gap areas or to use for review. I encourage any student needing help with reading or math skills to check out this site. Enjoy!

PBS Kids - PBS kids is a website that is created around popular children's books and television shows. It has both fun and educational games on it. This site is not sorted by grade level or skill level, which makes it hard to individualize, but it does have some good quality activities on it. You will have to create a sign in. Have fun!

e-Learning for Kids - This website was created with common core grade level goals in mind. It has all subjects for learning within its walls and is an excellent resource for each subject. You will have to help your child find a lesson based on their grade level, but once that has been done, the lesson does teach itself. One thing I have found from this website is that it is international and there is a drop down menu that will translate or turn on another language. If this happens look to the top of the page for the drop-down "translate" menu and you can turn it back to English! Happy Learning!!

Education Galaxy - This website is a skills review site for which most of your children will already have an account. We have used this site for the first time this year for test prep. It has now become free during the school closings. Children will work through reading and math skills and can earn badges and game time. This is a pretty good resource for use within your child's grade level. Happy Learning!

CompassLearning - This website is a skills review site. All children in the Hayward Intermediate School have log-in's and have been using this for support within their daily classroom routine. Students can log into this website and pick-up where they left off with skills practice. This is a great tool kids can use each day.

Teach Your Monster To Read - This website is a very entertaining review site for early learning skills. It covers alphabet letters and sounds. It also teaches early reading skills by having students read sentences. All students that I have seen use this site, love it.

Free Rice- This is an English/Vocabulary game.

Wacky Web Tales- Create a funny story by filling in the blanks with random words that correspond to the appropriate part of speech or prompt.

Word Central- Vocabulary based games.

Clean Up Your Grammar- The beach is getting dirty with bad grammar, and we need your help to clean up the beach. Pick your level (Level 1 or 2), and put the trash in the correct garbage can.

Grammar Gorillas- The Grammar Gorillas need help identifying parts of speech. Click on the correct word in the sentence, and the gorillas will get a banana. There are beginner to advanced levels. Great for parts of speech practice!

Fighters Block- This is a free write game. At the bottom of the page students enter how many words they will type and click fight. It is a great site for students to just "practice write" while being timed.

Which Writing is Right?- Welcome to the Beacon Learning Center's student Web lesson on expository writing.

TrailBlazing Introductions- It's normal to sometimes feel lost while writing an introduction to your essay or story. Practice 'marking the trail' of these introductory paragraphs and learn what clues to put in your introduction that will how to hold your readers' interest.

TrailBlazing Conclusions- This exercise helps writers 'lasso' the skills needed for the writer to end with a strong conclusion.
