Hello Families -
Listed below are some reading intervention programs that your child has access to from visiting me during the week for their W.I.N. time! Feel free to work within these platforms as much as your child can. This is an enrichment page to help keep students engaged in the reading process throughout this difficult time. Click on either the picture or the bold underlined words to be taken directly to the website.
W.I.N. (What I Need) Time is very important. If you can spend 15-20 minutes, four times a week, on one of the programs listed below, this would be wonderful. If you finish a story, treat yourself to one of the programs on my front "Reading Ideas" page. These resources are fun! Maybe save this time for Fridays, or your extra day of the week for WIN time! Good luck, and if you need any help, please email me at KWoelber@hayward.k12.wi.us
CommonLit - At this time I am going to change the current content for my fifth grade students from e-Solutions to CommonLit. Both programs do the same for reading skills. However, the outlet of CommonLit is an easier interface for students to access at home. Students can log into CommonLit by going to their email first. I have sent students a log-in code there. They can then click on the site www.commonlit.org/en/enroll (should be found in their email also) and put their log-in number into the prompted area. This will enroll them in my classroom. Here they will find stories to read with a quick lesson attached. I will check this site frequently, and I will correct work and also re-assign new stories. Happy reading!
Ticket To Read - Students in Mrs. Woelber's 5th grade classes are also familiar with Ticket 2 Read. This program covers reading skills across the board. Students practice a multitude of reading skills in several different formats. I remind students to keep working on getting tickets so that they can spend them in their clubhouse. The clubhouse is the rewarding part of this program, and if they don't work hard to earn tickets, they won't have anything to use within the clubhouse to make it exciting. Good luck, kiddos, and happy reading!
FRECKLE: This resource is tied to our STAR (math/reading) assessments and could be a great resource for students. This program has math, reading, science, and social studies in it. I believe that it is set up much like the compass program students are used to working with, but I really like the format and engagement that students have within it. They can pick and choose activities and earn their way through learning!
NOTE: At times the link posted here will show The previous page is sending you to https://student.freckle.com/#/login. Just click on that link within the page and it will redirect you. I'm not sure why it keeps defaulting to this. It's a Freckle issue.
CompassLearning - This website is a skills review site. All children in the Hayward Intermediate School have log-ins and have been using this for support within their daily classroom routine. Remember to visit this program if you are looking for something different for the day!!!
