Situation Reports contain information about weather, damage, flooding, and other specific circumstances that provide others with a common understanding of what is happening.
Specific Real-World Impacts: (See the SitRep Form. Look for potential real-world impacts based on the scenario.)
Where are damages and hazards likely to happen? (Consider past experiences, and ask others.)
Where are the low points in roadways, places where rocks may fall, blocked drainage, tree hazards, and poorly maintained infrastructure?
Make notes of locations. Create your own ACS* SitReps in advance of the SET based on a survey of your commuity.
On September 14th, at home, work, or at your current location starting at 9 AM:
Listen to and check-in to a local net. (via Voice, Winlink, or both.)
Submit a weather report using ACS-SitRep format. (Report electrical outage.)
Up until 1145 you may submit your other SitReps.
The specific location of each SitRep is important. We will be mapping it. Specify a street address. Include the latitude and longitude (use Line 9) if you can. Use decimal format. We only need 4 significant digits after the decimal. Example: Lat 20.0779, Long -155.7626.
Specify your grid square if you know it.
As a last resort, use a road mile marker with your odometer to estimate the position. (Example: Highway 130, near mile marker 15.5 at the bridge.)
Keep it Simple:
Transmit a few SitReps for practice before the SET.
Only transmit items from the form sections that are relevant to your report.
Follow the directions of net control.
Speak Slowly, and use the minimal amount of words so that others may get access to the frequency.
Goal: Create 3 or more realistic ACS SitReps before the communication exercise.
In a real event, use your anemometer, rain gauge, etc. You can use these references to Estimate:
