The purpose of Kawehena Project's Training Grant is to provide current Kawehena participants with financial support to help them engage in professional development such as unpaid internships. Funds are extremely limited; therefore, we also highly encourage you to seek funding from other sources.
While this award is open to all full-time enrolled upper-division (60+ credits completed) undergraduate and first-year graduate student Kawehena participants in good standing, priority will be given to:
alumni of the following target high schools on O‘ahu and Hawai‘i Island: Hilo, Ka‘ū, Kaimukī, Kea‘au, Leilehua, Nānākuli, Pāhoa, or Wai‘anae
students who have already secured a semester/ summer internship
students who are expected to graduate within a year
We will also consider professional development training or selective graduate student programming relevant to TEACH-related* disciplines. Should you be awarded and accept this funding, you will be expected to share your experiences with Kawehena by submitting a short reflection and/or through some other previously-agreed-upon method. In addition, you agree to maintain timely communication with Kawehena Project (ex. responding to emails, submitting required documentation, signing paperwork. etc.).
Review of applications is on a rolling basis. Please feel free to contact us at kpuhm@hawaii.edu if there are any questions.
