From the College Essay Guy
We wanted to offer this handbook for a few different reasons. Here are some of the biggest:
● Access and equity—we’ve tried to build our company in ways that help to democratize education and the admissions process, and though our society has a ways to go, we’d like to think this handbook can be one step among many.
● Creating some ease and clarity around what can feel to many families like a stressful, confusing, momentous time, one that can raise difficult questions: How can parents or guardians best help their students in this process? What should we be doing now? Was I firm enough in trying to get them to eat their broccoli? Answers: That’s why you’re here. We’ll take it a step at a time. There was probably nothing else you could have done.)
Our goal is to give you the tools and knowledge to make the best college choices.
We specialize in helping take the stress out of affording a college education.
We try to cover the range of issues relating to parenting teens and college students. We write about High School, College Admissions, College, Good Parenting, Bad Parenting, and Lessons Learned from Other Parents and Grandparents.
But Grown and Flown is not about our two families.
We have had over 800 writers who have graced our pages with their personal stories or expert advice on parenting teens and young adults. We have writers who are doctors, psychologists, teachers, college counselors, college professors, and even a college president. Nearly all of these professionals are also parents, too, which means they have their own family life to draw from as they write for other parents who are in the grown and flown years.
