College and Career Transition Navigators or “Navigators” work directly with students to support their post-high school preparation and transition into college and/or the workforce. These supports include college and career exploration, one-on-one advising, college onboarding support, and matriculation into workforce opportunities.
The HCCN program is being implemented to address the pressing need for proactive college and career counseling and advising services among Hawaiʻi State Department of Education (HIDOE) students in the 11th and 12th grades. By offering one-on-one high-quality counseling services and various supports, the program aims to facilitate students' smooth transition into postsecondary education, training programs, or the workforce. The program adopts a collaborative approach, integrating both the University of Hawaiʻi System and the HIDOE, to collectively prepare students for success in their postsecondary endeavors and community engagement, aligning with Hawaiʻi's unique "kākou" philosophy.
