Hi!
Welcome to 8th Grade!!
This year, I am the Special Education Teacher for both Math and English Language Arts for 8th Grade. I’m looking forward to seeing some returning students that I worked with last year in 7th grade, as well as those I haven’t worked with before!
Through inclusion support and pull-out classes, I will be working to help students achieve their Math, Reading and Writing IEP goals. The classroom teachers and I work closely together and communicate with each other frequently to provide high quality Inclusion Support (also known as “B Grid Services”), whether I am physically present in the classroom, joining a class Google Meet, or ensuring that students are receiving the accommodations and modifications that have been determined to help each student be most successful.
Through regularly scheduled, small-group pull-out classes (also known as “C Grid Services”), for both Math and ELA, we will use daily and weekly routines to review classroom materials and concepts to ensure understanding, and include abundant opportunities for repetition and reinforcement of both new and previously learned information.
Embedded throughout my work with students is an emphasis on Self-Advocacy and improving Executive Functioning. As 8th graders who will be entering high school soon, I will encourage them to think and share with me their hopes and dreams for their academic, professional and personal futures. Believe it or not, we’ll be able to do this in both interesting informal ways, as well as through slightly more formal formats, such as surveys and discussions.
I’m excited to work with you and your children this year. The circumstances of Covid and subsequent online learning has inspired many new and interesting programs, strategies and methods of instruction that I hope will keep us all engaged and enthusiastic.
