We will create original pieces without the aid of the manual/guide.
On this day we were mainly brainstorming ideas. We then began the base of our structure. We used a wide base to add good support to our structure. The hole in the middle of the base serves no purpose.
Today we added walls. We didn't do anything too fancy for the walls. For the roof we used rulers to add extra support that we couldn't add using Keva Blocks.
Today we finished our structure. We opted for a triangle shape because it would look nicer, We also shook the structure to make sure it would stand and it survived unharmed.
Today we were brainstorming again. Since we had one day left we thought of an idea that we could build in one class period. We settled on building a tower as high as we could.
We built a tower using all the Keva Blocks. We built it like you would a Jenga structure because we figured it'd be the best way to get more height/block.
Using Keva Blocks, I created two structures without any guide or tutorial because I wanted to experiment with the blocks and create original structures. .I thought it'd be a better experience if we usecd our own original ideas and concepts. This meant we would have to problem solve and improve on our faulty designs.
During this process, I learned to be innovative and to use my surrounding objects in order to help me. For example, during the project, we didn't know how to make it so our roof would stand. In order to fix this problem, we used rulers to give our roof support.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer because we created and improved on a prototype. We tried multiple designs for our walls but when they didn't work out we kept on improving on their flaws. In addition, we built multiple designs for the base of out structure and then kept on improving on it.
A challenge I overcame on this project was making a roof. I was able to do it by utilizing other items. We added rulers to the roof in order to give it extra support. This was possible because unlike the Keva blocks, the ruler was able to reach from one end of our structure to the other.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change my second build . The reason why I would change it is because I think it would've been better to make something that was more complicated or detailed. We considered it, but we didn't do it because we were a little tight on time after out first structure. In addition, we should've taken better pictures. In the end our project turned out fine, but we didn't take nearly enough pictures, let alone any of quality.
