For this project, I used Delightex, an iPod, and VR goggles to create a virtual reality world of a bank. I decided to design a bank because I had the tools and resources available to build it, and it gave me the opportunity to explore the world in virtual reality. This allowed me to see what needed to be fixed or adjusted and helped me practice creating realistic spaces inside a digital environment.
During this process, I learned a variety of new skills using Delightex. I figured out how to resize objects, move them up and down without changing their overall size, and even how to export 3D print designs into my virtual world. These skills were essential in building my VR bank and gave me more control over how my environment looked and felt. Along the way, I also discovered many other useful features that helped improve my design.
This project connects to the 7 standards of the class, especially the Digital Citizen standard. By making my own virtual world, I demonstrated how to create and manage digital content responsibly. I also made sure that the things I built and added followed appropriate digital guidelines and contributed to a creative and safe environment in VR.
A challenge I encountered during this project was inserting a pre-made building that wasn’t the right size for the space I had planned. I overcame this obstacle by adjusting the building’s size until it fit perfectly within my virtual world. Once I had it sized correctly, I locked it in place so it wouldn’t move while I added decorations and other items inside and around it. This taught me the importance of problem-solving and careful planning when working in a virtual environment.
If I had the opportunity to do this project again, the one thing I would change is the amount of time given to complete it. I believe that with more time, I could add more details, improve the appearance of the space, and discover new ways to enhance my VR world. Extra time would allow me to be more creative and experiment with additional features to make the final product even better.
Lastly, this project connects to the Digital Multimedia Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program at Hastings High School. It also relates to careers in Digital Multimedia because I created a digital concept of a bank that people can move around in and explore. This experience showed me how virtual environments can be useful in many careers, such as game design, real estate, finance, architecture, and interactive media development.
I used ChatGPT to help with expanding the paragraphs and restate some of my sentences, along with making better sentence starters
