Reflection questions:
I decided to use iMotion and Legos to make a stop-motion video. I thought it would be fun and interesting to see what Legos could look like if they were moving on their own. Stop motion is a cool way to tell a story using pictures. It was exciting to watch the video come together as we added more frames.
I learned during the project that you should always save or export your work each day. If you don’t, you could lose everything, just like we did. All of our pictures were deleted, and we had to start over. It was frustrating, but it taught me how important it is to back up your work.
In our class, we learn about seven important standards for using technology. These include being an Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project connects to Global Collaborator because we posted it online. Now, anyone can watch it on MrRenner.com, even people from around the world.
One of the hardest parts of this project was when all of our pictures got erased. It felt disappointing because we had worked so hard on it. But instead of giving up, we started from scratch. It wasn’t fun, but it showed that we could stick with something even when it gets tough.
If I could do this project again, I would make sure the iPad was held more steadily. Our video turned out kind of shaky, which made it hard to watch. Using a tripod or a stand would have made a big difference. A steady camera helps the stop motion look smoother and more professional.
Hastings High School has lots of CTE (Career and Technical Education) programs for students to explore. Some of the programs are Agriculture, Culinary Arts, Engineering, and Digital Multimedia. My project fits with the Digital Multimedia program because I created a video using animation tools. It’s a good example of using technology to make creative media.
This project also relates to jobs in graphic design. We had to think about how each scene would look and how to tell a story through pictures. After designing the scenes, we turned them into a video. That’s a lot like what graphic designers do when they create content for websites, ads, or videos.
