Reflection questions:
Using TinkerCad, I created a USB and SD card holder to help keep my storage devices organized. I needed a place to store them safely and neatly. Designing it also helped me practice basic 3D modeling skills.
During this process, I learned how to lock objects in TinkerCad. Locking objects prevents them from resizing or moving accidentally. This made my design more accurate and easier to work with.
The seven standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project connects most strongly to the Innovative Designer standard. This is because we designed items specifically for 3D printing.
One challenge I overcame during this project was getting the hole sizes correct for the USBs. At first, the holes were either too big or too small. I solved this by carefully measuring the USBs and looking up size references.
If I were given the chance to do this project again, I would change the overall shape of the holder. The current design is somewhat clunky. It also wastes more space than necessary.
Hastings High School’s Career and Technical Education program offers many pathways. These include Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program.
My project relates to careers in the engineering and design fields. It required both planning and problem-solving. I engineered the concept and then designed the final product.
