Using robots and coding, I created a robot that can climb up a ramp and land perfectly in a hole. I decided to build this robot because I really like golf, and I think golfing is a lot of fun. It was exciting to combine something I enjoy with technology to make the robot do something cool.
During this process, I learned a lot about how to make my robot listen to me and do the things I told it to do. At first, it was a bit tricky to figure out how to write the right code so the robot would understand my instructions. But after trying different commands and fixing mistakes, I finally got it to follow what I wanted perfectly. It was really exciting to see how the robot could move, climb the ramp, and land in the hole just by following the instructions I programmed. This experience helped me understand how powerful coding is and how it can control machines to do amazing things.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Computational Thinker because I was able to think of the code and control the robot myself and with my team.
One challenge I overcame during this project was not being able to think of the right code to make the robot do what I wanted. At first, I felt stuck and didn’t know where to start. But then, I found some helpful videos that showed different coding ideas, and watching those gave me new ideas. After learning from the videos, I was able to come up with a better code on my own. This helped me solve the problem and keep working on my robot until it worked perfectly.
If I had the chance to do this project again, I would make sure to give myself more time to work on it. The reason I would change this is because I barely had enough time to finish the last code. Rushing made it harder to fix mistakes and make the robot work just right. With more time, I think I could do an even better job and make the robot work smoother and faster.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering and Design CTE program at Hastings High School.
My project connects to careers in mechanical engineering because I designed and built the robot to do different tasks. Just like mechanical engineers, I had to figure out how to make the robot move and work properly by using engineering skills. This project helped me understand how engineers create machines that can solve problems and do useful things.
