Planning questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
By myself.
What materials will you need for your project?
My computer.
What is your plan to create in this project?
To create a working game on scratch.
What unique qualities will your project have?
This was made without another persons help.
https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1263192890 Link to the game I made.
Watched a video about scratch.
Added all the things like baseball click etc.
Made my first two button that increased the amount per click.
Made my first 2 buttons that give you clicks every second.
Added 2 more buttons and finished the project.
Using Scratch, I created a clicker game because I wanted to find out how to code better in a more simple way. During this process, I learned how to successfully code a game using Scratch's unique block-based system. This project served as a great introduction to the fundamentals of video game design.
My project directly ties to the class standard of Innovative Designer because it involved using technology to create a functional product. I specifically used the Scratch platform on my computer to independently build my clicker game from scratch. Through this work, I was able to actively design and test a creative technological solution.
A major challenge I overcame during this project was figuring out the code to get an automatic click every second. I initially struggled with this mechanic until I looked over another tutorial video to figure out my mistakes. By studying that new resource, I was able to successfully implement the feature into my game.
Given a chance to do this project again, I would change how I initially picked my instructional videos. The reason for this change is that my first choice was a horrible video that ended up wasting my valuable time. Ultimately, I had to find another video to properly guide me through the coding process.
The Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers many pathways, including Agriculture, Business Management, and Computer Programming. My project strongly connects to the CTE program because it falls directly under the computer programming category. I proved this connection by using Scratch to write code that makes a fully functional video game.
Furthermore, my project connects directly to careers such as junior software engineer, web development, and programmer analyst. Every single one of these jobs requires a deep understanding of coding, which was the exact focus of my project. By completing this clicker game, I took the first step toward developing the skills needed for these future professions.
