Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working with a team
What materials will you need for your project?
Lego's and ipad.
What is your plan to create in this project?
The plan is to create a lego tower and make sure its stable.
What unique qualities will your project have?
It is made hands on not on a computer or made by a machine.
Day 1
Sorted legos by color
Day 2
Started the baseplate for the lego tower.
Day 3
Finished the base and started the tower.
Day 4
Added more to the tower
The other bottom of the tower was to big, so we made a smaller one.
We added a lot more to the tower and made a mini party roof to help balance the weight of the tower.
We added these guys for fun.
Using Lego's, I created a Lego tower because me and my group wanted to test what to do for certain situations in construction of the Lego tower.
During this process, I learned how to construct a Lego tower and what to do when the base wasn't strong enough. Or if the tower was leaning to far to the right.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer because when the Lego tower was leaning I thought to add a platform. To the side of the tower to balance both sides of the tower and stop the leaning.
A challenge I overcame on this project was figuring out what type of base would work best. I was able to do it by trying out different shapes and sizes of bases to find one that suited the tower the best.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the way we started the project. The reason why I would change it is because we started by sorting the lego brick by color. Which ended up just wasting time because we just built the tower without the colors organized.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the CTE program because it uses Innovative Designer which is part of the CTE program at Hastings High School.
My project connects to careers in construction project managers, superintendents, and specialized tradespeople like electricians, carpenters because it involves building and constructing a building like a house or a skyscraper etc.
