At Hastings, our homework provision is branded as "Independent Learning." In line with our CARES values, we strive for our students to become proactive and independent members of the local community. Our approach to independent learning has been thoughtfully designed around this vision and supported by empirical research.
Independent learning encompasses any educational activity that takes place outside the classroom. Most frequently, this involves additional assignments set by teachers to be completed at home.
Unlike the punitive approaches adopted by many schools, Hastings provides a supportive environment to help students successfully complete their work. By offering structured support, we aim to remove learning barriers and motivate students to produce high-quality work. Students can access help throughout the week during subject-specific support sessions, or by attending our daily Independent Learning Club held in the ICT suite during lunchtimes and after school.
