Students who major in Psychology ask big questions about the human experience and learn the tools needed to explore these questions scientifically. Questions such as:
How can we be happier?
How does becoming a parent change your brain?
How do emotions influence our sense of time?
How do we help people with hoarding disorder?
What drives people to extremism?
This curiosity for the big questions is what motivates Psychology majors to seek out research backed information and learn the scientific skills needed to find the answers. Answers with real-world implications in therapy, education, business, healthcare, law, and our personal relationships.
The knowledge and skill base you build as a Psychology major can prepare you for advanced study or be applied across a wide range of career paths ranging from education to business; healthcare to marketing; and human resources to law. Regardless of the career path you choose, Psychology majors make an impact in their communities and the world.
“My time at Hastings College truly helped me be prepared for my next steps following graduation. The faculty within the psychology department worked with me to support my interests both in research, class and applying for grad schools. With the help and mentoring I received from professors, I was able to achieve my goals and be successful in my endeavors!” - Sasha Richards '24
"The psychology department at Hastings College provided me with a well-rounded education and exceptional personalized support. From career mentoring to hands-on research experience, our program has been integral to my personal and professional development. A key highlight for me was our research methods course and senior capstone project, where students have the opportunity to design, collect, analyze, and write their own research projects. The chance to independently gather data and design experiments as an undergrad is a rare experience that sets HC psych students apart from those at larger institutions. You will not regret majoring in psychology at HC!" - Riley Lanning '25
