Dr. Stephanie Furrer joined the HC Faculty in 2005 and has taught many developmental courses (Lifespan, Early Childhood Development, Adolescent Development and Emerging Adulthood, Psych of Aging) as well as Intro to Psych and Senior Capstone. Dr. Furrer considers herself a lifelong learner who finds joy not only in sharing knowledge with students but also in learning alongside them.
Trained as a developmental scientist with expertise in early childhood development, particularly infant categorization and concept formation, Dr. Furrer has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles. Her current research explores the influence of nature on human development, with growing interests in ecopsychology and nature connectedness, examining how nature-based experiences can support cognitive, emotional, and social well-being. A guiding goal of her work and teaching is to help students disconnect from technology to reconnect with themselves, others, and the natural world.
