EPIC is an online reading library that can be individualized to your child’s reading level and interest. It is a cost efficient way to have access to a vast amount of reading material during the summer. This is so important because, without any reading over the summer, children tend to slide backward in their reading levels. Some have even called it the “Netflix” for books!
This online e-book application can be used on computers as well as on iPads and devices using the Epic app. Parents, you can get your first month for free. Once signed up, you can establish the reading level and interest categories for your child and the app will pull from that information to gather a library of reading material and videos that you child will enjoy.
If you see that the level you have chosen is too difficult or too easy, you can adjust the reading level at any time in the settings. You can also select to allow or not allow your child to have access to the learning videos. This app will allow your child to read books at their own pace but if a book is too quickly flipped through, a child will not receive credit for finishing the book. It automatically knows if a child has read or just flipped pages. Students earn badges for finishing books, reading from different genres, and all other kinds of incentives.
Epic houses some of the most popular series like Goosebumps and Big Nate. There are also titles for 5 and under all the way to age 12! All libraries will contain books from every genre and subject area (History to Math and Science to Adventure). You will not be disappointed in this resource! Give it a chance for free for the first month and by the second, you child will be using their own allowance to purchase the second month’s access!
