Hartselle Intermediate School

Hope you all had a relaxing and refreshing Fall Break with your family.  We are gearing up for a strong start to second nineweeks.  Please continue to follow us on social media platforms and avail yourself to the information within the Parent Newsletter.  Should you have questions regarding student grades, please reach out to your child's teacher.

Also, we want to celebrate our teachers and students for making HIS a great place to learn and grow. Niche reports that we rank in the top 3% of middle schools in Alabama.  Although we think we are #1 (smile), we are grateful for our community and district-wide support as we continue in #TheTigerWay!

Make-up Work and Missed Assignments:

The HIS Parent/Student Handbook states the following:

Students who are absent are required to make up work missed in each class. It is the student's responsibility to obtain all make-up work from his/her teachers immediately upon return to school. Only in extreme cases of prolonged absences will more than one week be allowed for work to be made up.

In an effort to support students and help with the transition to a new grade level, we have been more lenient with our make-up work guidelines during 1st nineweeks. As we begin the second nine weeks of school, please be aware that we are going to stick more closely to our stated policy. However, teachers will still have the discretion to work with students and parents when there are prolonged absences or extenuating circumstances.

Please help your student know that they need to talk to their teachers and write in their planners the work that needs to be completed. They should also check their Google Classroom for assignments that were posted while they were absent.

We appreciate your support as we work with students to build their sense of responsibility and ownership of their learning.

Check with your ELA teacher for Spelling lists to study.  Classroom Bee's will be between Nov. 1-3rd.

Those that advance from your class will compete in the school-wide competition in December.

Water Bottles in class

Our students are able to bring water bottles to school each day.  However, should it be a constant disruption to class, students will be asked to leave in locker or at home.  Many students are drinking excessive amounts of water and having to go to restroom regularly during classroom instruction.  We know our students need to use the restroom, but the ultimate goal is to maximize the  learning of every  student not miss instructional time.  Please have a conversation with your student.

PowerSchool

Please be sure to stay up to date with your child's progress through PowerSchool app.

Parent Guides

Carline Parents/Guardians: Thank you for your help with our adjusted A-K car format.  We were asked by Central office and the city to help open up the traffic on Sparkman and at the west traffic light.  Commendations to Officer Al for helping us make this transition.  Should you still have questions, feel free to reach out to Officer Al, Mr Hembree or myself.   No process is perfect; however, we do strive to be at our best everyday and serve our students and families with excellence!

As always, safety is our priority and if you can help us with cordiality with the merging process, that will expedite the process.  Again, as adults we want to model #TheTigerWay for our students and children while on campus.

Thank you for your help with this!
