ACAP Standardized Testing Window- April 1-18

April 1-18 is the HIS ACAP testing window. During this time, we are requesting that ALL students leave cups, Stanleys, and water bottles OUT of the classroom testing areas. Also, smart watches, personal phones or devices, and backpacks MUST be in the student's locker.  Violation of this protocol requires state irregularity reporting. Students will be advised of protocols; please help us with this requirement.

Student Field Trip during school day

March 19th- HHS Theater Team presents Sponge Bob The Musical at HHS Auditorium. Permission forms due March 18th.

HIS will be hosting a rodeo show for students who earn their ticket to this event. This is a special event for all students should they exhibit the following...

To earn a ticket to Wrangle the ACAP:

1) Tiger Way behavior- no office referrals that result in ISI, SUS, or Alternative School. (starts March 18-April 25)

2) Give your best effort during ACAP testing April 1-18(no sleeping, rushing through work, showing your work, brainstorming, etc)

3) Be present and in good attendance for ACAP(no unexcused absences)

Thank you for your help with ensuring these high expectations with your child.

March Board Meeting at CES- March 19th 6pm

Cell Phone/Smart Watch Usage during instructional time

We've had an uptick of students using cell phones/smart watches to contact parents during instructional time.  Please remind students that they are to ask the nearest adult/classroom teacher, go to the nurse's office, or talk with the front office should they need to contact parents.  We are supportive of that communication to home but through approved channels.  Disruption of instructional time will be handled through disciplinary protocols per Hartselle City Schools.  Thank you for speaking with your student about this matter.

Parent Guides

Parents, we would like to ask you to be involved with your child's screen time and apps.  Healthy boundaries are a good thing.  They need the accountability during this stage of their lives to help them develop habits that will set them up for success.

Parents, please remember these reminders about Absences and Check-outs:

Check-outs in front office need to be made before 2:40pm due to buses.

Transportation changes are due Ms Kelly Smith by 2:00pm, so we can have time to let students know unless an emergency arises.

Excuses/Dr. Note's are due 3 days upon returning to school.

Make-up Work and Missed Assignments:

The HIS Parent/Student Handbook states the following:

Students who are absent are required to make up work missed in each class. It is the student's responsibility to obtain all make-up work from his/her teachers immediately upon return to school. Only in extreme cases of prolonged absences will more than one week be allowed for work to be made up.

In an effort to support students and help with the transition to a new grade level, we have been more lenient with our make-up work guidelines during 1st nineweeks. As we begin the second nine weeks of school, please be aware that we are going to stick more closely to our stated policy. However, teachers will still have the discretion to work with students and parents when there are prolonged absences or extenuating circumstances.

Please help your student know that they need to talk to their teachers and write in their planners the work that needs to be completed. They should also check their Google Classroom for assignments that were posted while they were absent.

We appreciate your support as we work with students to build their sense of responsibility and ownership of their learning.

PowerSchool

Please be sure to stay up to date with your child's progress through PowerSchool app.

Carline Parents/Guardians: Thank you for your help with our adjusted A-K car format.  We were asked by Central office and the city to help open up the traffic on Sparkman and at the west traffic light.  Commendations to Officer Al for helping us make this transition.  Should you still have questions, feel free to reach out to Officer Al, Mr Hembree or myself.   No process is perfect; however, we do strive to be at our best everyday and serve our students and families with excellence!

As always, safety is our priority and if you can help us with cordiality with the merging process, that will expedite the process.  Again, as adults we want to model #TheTigerWay for our students and children while on campus.

Thank you for your help with this!
