Purpose:  The purpose of this experiment is to identify chemical and physical changes.

Hypothesis:  If you observe the changes that substances undergo, then you can classify those changes as physical or chemical based on the change in composition of the substance.

Variables:

IV:  The substances reacting

DV:  The physical and chemical changes

Control:  The accepted properties of the substances.

Summary of Procedure:  In this experiment, many substances will be mixed together to determine if a chemical or physical change takes place.  The characteristics of the substances before reacting and after reacting will be observed and recorded.  The changes observed during the experiment will be classified as either being chemical or physical based upon the clues that indicate that a chemical reaction has taken place which are evolution of a gas, changes in energy, and change in appearance.
