Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to determine the precision and accuracy of measurements.
Hypothesis: When an object is measured more than once, the measurements may vary based on the closeness of a set of measured values to each other, this is called precision. When the object being measured is close to the accepted value, then the measurement is called accurate.
Materials: electronic and glass thermometer, beakers, graduated cylinder, coins, colored water, pipette
Safety: Be careful using glassware in the laboratory.
Summary of Procedure: In this lab, you will use a meterstick to measure length, a graduated cylinder to measure volume, and a thermometer to measure temperature. Each of these measurements will be made more than one time and the accuracy and precision of results will be compared.
