Recorded at a pottery in Naruto, Tokushima Prefecture, Shikoku Island, Japan.
A Suikinkutsu is a larger clay pot that is buried upside down in the ground. It is a type of underground echo chamber that has a water reservoir at the bottom and a small opening at the top. The unique sound is created by water drops that form at the top of the clay pot and fall into the water at certain intervals. Which produces a very delicate sound.
A Suikinkutsu can be found in gardens, for example. Usually in places where people clean their hands. When washing hands and because the sound is very subtle, the existence of a Suikinkutsu is barely noticeable.
Ambient sounds during a train ride.
Recorded on one of Wakayama's unique sightseeing trains on the Kada-Sakana Line.
