Beginning in 11th grade, high school students can enroll in college level courses without paying tuition through COC's College NOW! Program. This provides students with a great opportunity to earn both and high school and college credits simultaneously. Enrollment information can be found on our Community College page.
College of the Canyons courses that students commonly take to fulfill A-G requirements can be found here: Suggested Courses for COLLEGE NOW! students.
The PSAT (Preliminary SAT) is administered yearly in October to high school juniors. Sales usually take place in September and juniors are given priority registration. The PSAT is a practice version of the SAT® which is a college entrance exam used by most colleges and universities. Although many colleges have made the SAT optional in recent years, there are other reasons you may want to take the PSAT as a junior.
VHS administers the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). Only juniors are eligible to qualify for National Merit Scholarship recognition and college scholarships. If you qualify, you will be contacted by your high school counselor with instructions on how to enter the competition.
When you take the PSAT, you will have the option to have your personal information shared with colleges and scholarship providers through the College Board’s Student Search Service. It can provide an opportunity to learn about schools you may not have thought of and scholarships you may not have considered.
